An October-feast for Octoberfest!

Today, just one month into the new school year our Club recognized five amazing fifth graders for their leadership, kindness and academic achievements. Every month we ask teachers from five elementary schools in our community to nominate a student for the Kiwanis Student of the Month Award. Congratulations to Behan from Chi Chi Rodriquez Academy nominated by his teacher Lori Vanderklok; Payton from Eisenhower Elementary nominated by Coach Sanfilippo; Madelyn from Leila Davis nominated by her teachers Mrs. Perrone and Mrs. Ellerbee, Emma from McMullen Booth nominated by Jamie Curda and Brittany Anderson, and Ariella from Safety Harbor nominated by her teacher Ms. Carstensen. ... Upbeat and optimistic vibes filled the banquet hall for the 2023-24 Installation Dinner of our Club’s new Officers and Board of Directors on Sept. 14th. We are in good hands this coming term – board members and officers are energized and ready to “Improve the World One Child and One Community at a Time!”

Special guests made the evening truly exceptional. Starting with new Division 12 Lt. Governor Evan Eastman, who oversaw the installation, as well as Melissa Dahmer, Division 12 Key Club Lt. Governor; Giana Benjamin, Calvary Key Club President, and Josh Muerer, Chi Chi Rodriguez Academy Principal.

A highlight of the night was the Kiwanis Lifetime Achievement Award given to Chuck Hawkins from our club. Dan Marignoni and Aimee Busquet talked of Chuck’s life of service in Kiwanis and what a humble and giving man he is. Chuck has made such a huge difference in many young lives. Although he was unable to join us, Chuck’s wife Elaine accepted the award on his behalf.

And he wasn’t the only special Kiwanian missing that night. Janine Brown couldn’t make it so fellow Kiwanian Julie Kelsey brought a photo of Janine (on a stick)!
